Save Biogems

Biogems is a cool site. It takes so little to be effective. You go to the site, you sign an email, and then some nice Artic Reserve doesn’t get turned into an oilfield. Painless.

Truth Out

Walter Cronkite recently lamented the change in newscasters from "analysts to commentators." He said the whole game had changed as the appearance of more and more news shows created competion for audiences. Some cuts had to be made to fund advertising and entice new viewers. Those cuts were made in foreign news correspondence. In his song “Where Were You”, Alan Jackson laments, “I watch CNN, but I’m not sure I can tell you the difference in Iraq and Iran”. With no budget allocation for it, it's hard to keep up with U.S. foreign policy. Sites like truthout.org are valuable in that they derive from a lot of foreign news sources.

WM3

The story of the "West Memphis Three" is known to some. Their plight is certainly being made more public through the efforts of singer Henry Rollins. He recently put together a cool collection of Black Flag songs with a variety of vocalists, the proceeds of which benefit the legal fund for the three young men in question. There is also a book on the subject, and both can be accessed via www.HenryROLLINS.com. There is a site dedicated to this case specifically @ www.wm3.org [click the link above].

Free Peltier
www.FreePeltier.org
LEONARD PELTIER has been in prison for over 27 years after being convicted of a crime without solid evidence. Clicking on the “Peltier FACTS” will fill in anyone who’s interested in the background of the case. At this point, Leonard’s an old man with a myriad of health problems but he has been refused health care and parole considerations. There was a movie made in 1992 called "Thunderheart" [stars Val Kilmer] about that time period in South Dakota in the ‘70s. For anyone interested in a great book about the plight of Native Americans with beautiful, old photographs, "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee" by historian Dee Brown is a good place to start.
